I haven't done much other than post pictures here lately, so I thought it might be time for a longer update.
Babies are excellent. That's the bottom line.
They sleep from 8 pm to about 4 am every night, then have a bottle and back to sleep for another 2-3 hours. I'm starting to wonder if we can ditch that middle of the night bottle sometime soon.
The bad news is that they aren't sleeping enough during the day, especially Maddie. She really fights nap time. I think she really likes being social and looking at everything so she wants to stay awake. Ben, on the other hand, is pretty consistent and easy to get to sleep. Some days he'll sleep for 3 hours straight in the early afternoon.
Since they're not sleeping, it requires a bit more work to keep them happy and entertained. They love to sit in their bouncy chairs and watch the bubbles on one of the toy bars. That eats up tons of hours a day -- not to mention batteries.
Their other favorite toy -- the activity gym (which we've posted pics of on here) -- is sort of out of commission at the moment. The music box quit working. I contacted the company that made it and they are sending a new one, but it's on backorder and will be 6-8 weeks before it gets here!!
We've also started using an exersaucer for a few minutes each day. Both of them seem to really like sitting more upright, but they haven't quite gotten to playing with the toys yet. They will grab things a little bit, but not much.
I'm waiting for them to start rolling over, but not seeing much yet. I try to give them plenty of time on the floor every day, including some exercises to improve their head and neck muscles.
We think Ben is teething. So he's been a bit crabbier than usual the last couple of days. But baby Tylenol seems to be helping.
Both are "talking" up a storm. They shut up, though, when visitors are here, which is unfortunate. I took a video of them at 6:30 this morning babbling like crazy. I'm hoping to try to post it online somewhere and link to it from here. I need Jamey's help to do that, though.
We're completely done breastfeeding and babies are on formula exclusively. You should see how much formula we go through!! Not to mention how many bottles there are to wash every day. UGH. But I'm glad to have my breasts back to myself and to be able to sleep all night without full breasts waking me up.
We've been out on walks several days this past week now that the weather has improved. I'm hoping that will help me shed the remaining 15 pounds I'm carrying. I've also started going to the gym more regularly. Jamey is doing some baby duty in the mornings so I can go workout before he heads to the rental property.
We are preparing for a two-week stint at the cabin, most likely the last two weeks of May. I'm waiting to clarify exactly when I go back to work before we set this in stone. But bottom line is we want to have a two-week vacation with the babies before I go back to work. The goal is that Jamey will have the rental property done by then, too. I've started a list of all the things we need to bring up there with us -- it's quite long! I'm getting duplicates of some things (like an infant tub) that we'll just leave up there. But some things will have to go back and forth with us every time, most likely.
Jamey is going to the cabin the first two weekends in May (with friends in tow) to do all the spring work -- putting in the dock and boat, raking leaves, etc. I'm hoping to get some help around here since I'll be home alone with the babies those two weekends.
I think that's all for now. Babies are getting crabby and seem to be bored with the bubbles!
