Ben had his surgery this morning to open up the clogged tear duct. We picked the absolutely worst day to schedule it! My aunt was going to come babysit Maddie and, bless her heart, she attempted to make the 30-mile trek at 4:30 this morning but turned around a couple miles down the road when she couldn't see the lanes cause the snow was blowing so hard.
So we went to plan B: one of us stay here with Maddie and one take Ben. The thought of trying to manage Maddie for three+ hours (during nap time, no less!) at a clinic waiting room didn't sound appealing. And with the roads so bad, I opted to let Jamey take him even though I was sad that I wouldn't be there to comfort him when he came out of the anesthesia.
Luckily, it seemed that he tolerated the anesthesia well and didn't cry all that hard when he woke up. The nurses told Jamey they were impressed. He's such a trooper!
The doctor said the procedure went well and 90% chance that this will solve the problem. There was a small web of skin blocking the tear duct that they removed. So hopefully he won't need any further treatment for this. Yeah!
When Jamey got home with him around 9:45, he was sleeping and he stayed asleep until around 11:45. He seemed in good spirits and had lots of energy. He ate a pretty good lunch -- more than I expected -- and then he and Maddie crawled and climbed over everything and wore themselves out!
Both were out like lights a few minutes after going down for 1 pm nap. The doctor thought he'd be back to his old self by the end of the day.
