So I meant to blog about this a couple days ago right after it happened, but I just kept forgetting...
The other night at the end of dinner, Ben and Maddie each had a Nilla wafer that they were chewing on. Suddenly they both started looking at each other and laughing. I have no idea why. Neither one of them looked funny in any way (like no food on their face or something like that). They just went on like this, laughing away, for several minutes. Then Ben reached his hand out toward Maddie, with the Nilla wafer in his hand. Maddie grabbed it out of his hand and Ben didn't even seem to mind. I gave it back to Ben and they kept doing that a couple more times -- Ben would put his hand out and she would take the cookie. And they'd laugh some more.
It probably doesn't sound nearly as funny written down as it was in person. Clearly they are relating to each other in their own little kid way and it's so much fun to watch!
What else is going on?
I guess the biggest thing is that they are getting into everything. The main floor of our house is almost completely babyproofed so they can explore. The floors are almost bare, except for toys. I've given them a couple kitchen cabinets to pull things out of and they have a lot of fun playing with juice bottles and some cans of soda next to the fridge. Yesterday Ben entertained himself for a good 20 minutes or so just sitting on (and sort of bouncing) a box laid flat on the floor that contains a doorway gate (that we haven't installed yet). It was pretty funny.
They have also rejected any "sit-in" toys such as the jumperoos, exersaucers and walkers. We can no longer put them in one of these things and expect that they won't go anywhere for a little while. So I'm trying to be relaxed and let them get a few bumps and bruises. The one nice thing is that I can get a lot of things done in the kitchen! That's one of their favorite places to explore, so I let them do that while I do dishes or prep food or whatever.
